A Weekend Away with Canvas

On 5 – 7 March, Canvas will be going on a weekend away to Wales! We’ll pile into cars and make the drive to Newtown, Wales where we are staying at a retreat center. The cost is £35 per student and that includes lodging and all meals except for dinner on the way there. The weekend will look a lot like a Tuesday night at Canvas plus more. Our newest staff member, Caleb, will do a couple of talks and the band will also be playing throughout the weekend. There are loads of other fun things to do like games, table tennis, basketball, frisbee, and more! It is going to be a brilliant weekend and we hope you can join us! This Week at Canvas

I don’t know about you, but if anyone asks me to build them a house made of spaghetti noodles and marshmallows, I know who to call.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend and that you’re finally finished with essays and papers and such.

Here’s what’s happening this week:

Tuesday Night at Canvas. 8pm. This week, just like every week, we’re eating a delicious dinner, listening to some great music and hearing a talk from a Canvas staff member about his walk through his Christian faith. Afterward, we’ll head down to the pub to hang out with each other. Dinner starts at 8pm. Hope you can make it!

Thursday BBQ. 12pm. Come by Canvas to grab a free burger (or two) on your way to or from Uni. Each week, we cook until about 2pm. So come eat some lunch with us!

Soup-er Thursday. 7pm. On a cold, winter night, there’s nothing better than a hot bowl of Lloyd Grossman’s soup… and some warm bread. That’s exactly what we’re serving up on Thursday evening. After we eat, we’ll play some games, ping-pong, go to the pub… really anything our hearts desire. Again, we’ll start eating at 7pm. Hope you can make it!

Friday Sports. 2pm. Each week, some people get together and play some crazy game at Canvas. Last week, we had an interesting game of crawly-pong… an American mixture of ping-pong, cricket, and volleyball… I have a feeling we’ll be playing again this Friday. Come by at 2pm for some fun times.

Girl Talk. Friday. 7:30pm. Women at Canvas are getting together to talk about real-life issues and get to know each other a little better. It will be a great time of learning from each other, learning about each other, and just enjoying each other’s company. Girls, come down to Canvas at 7:30 PM on Friday.

That’s what’s going on this week. As always, the doors are open every day with free tea and coffee available, as well as free WI-FI.

Canvas Community Open-House

The Canvas staff would really enjoy getting to know our neighbours, especially those in the community surrounding the Canvas House that aren’t students. If that’s you, we want to invite you to a special Canvas community open-house on Sunday, 10 January from 2pm to 4pm at Canvas (Tiverton Road). Come to the house, meet the staff, ask your questions and learn more about why we do what we do.

This is one way that we can continue to be better neighbours to you, and being great neighbours is important to us. Hope you’ll join us this Sunday.
