This Week At Canvas – 22 March

Some of you might be asking, “What am I going to do this week?”

Even more of you are probably asking yourselves, “What am I doing on Tuesday of this week?”

And even more of are saying to yourselves, “I wish Canvas was doing something so fun there’s no way I would ever decide not to come.”

Well, for all of you, I have something exciting to tell you.

THIS TUESDAY NIGHT. 8 PM. WE’RE HAVING OUR FIRST EVER CANVAS VILLAGE FÊTE! If you’re someone who has no idea what our version of a “fête” is, let me tell you what’s going to happen.

Free dinner at 8, Sumo wrestling, balloon animals, hook-a-duck, welly wanging, bean-bag tossing, candy apples, barn dancing, face painting, and a 6 foot man eating chicken! It’s going to be the most fun you’ve had since the weekend away, I promise.

Also, you should wear your best flannel shirt… we’re barn dancing after all…

We’ll see you at Canvas on Tuesday Night @ 8 PM. There’s no better way to celebrate the end of the term!

And just a reminder, we’re having our weekly BBQ on Tuesday this week just to get everyone in the mood for some good old fashion barn dancing. It’s from 12 to 2. Hope you can make it!

See you soon!

This Week at Canvas – 15 March

If your Saturday night was like mine, you were sat in a comfy seat in a large room on the second floor of the Guild, watching the finest dancers from Selly Oak and Edgbaston shake, spin, and twist around on stage for a few hours. There were flashing lights, explosions, pyrotechnics, and a crowd of people on the edge of their seats.

I’ll admit, the dance groups were pretty good, but I’ve seen Matt Finerty do things on a dance floor that no one else could ever do! And, on that note, here’s what’s happening this week at Canvas:

OPEN MIC NIGHT. MONDAY. 8 PM. This is the last open mic night of the term, so I suggest you get your instruments and your voices and come down to Canvas to show off your talents. Even if you don’t sing, dance, or play music, you should come and enjoy some great entertainment. We’ll have dessert, too! Hope to see you there. (Sign up to play at openmic.canvashouse.org)

TUESDAY NIGHT @ CANVAS. 8 PM. This week, we’ll eat some delicious Mexican food in honor of the Canvas students going to build a house there, listen to some great music, and finish our talk series about the Father and his Two sons. We’ll start eating at 8 and we’ll head down to the pub when we’re all finished. Hope to see you there!

FREE BBQ. THURSDAY. 12-2 PM. Come by Canvas to grab a burger and hang out around the house with some cool people. We’ll be cooking ’til we run out of beef, so stop by on your way to or from Uni!

SOUPER THURSDAY. 7 PM. It’s still pretty chilly in the evenings, and there’s no better way to satisfy a cold and hungry stomach than a warm bowl of soup and oven-baked bread. Every Thursday night, we eat together and hang out around Canvas, go to the pub… really anything our hearts’ desire. Come by at 7 to fill your stomachs and hang out with some cool people.

FRIDAY IN THE PARK. 2 PM. Come to the park at 2 on Friday to play some football, frisbee, or whatever other sport you can think of. I showed everyone how to play football last week. You should start calling me Pele…

That’s what’s going on this week! And as always, the doors are always open for you to come study, drink some free tea, or beat Jen Waghorn in Ping-Pong.

See you soon!

This Week At Canvas

I thought instead of telling you what you already know: that Tuesday Night @ Canvas is on tonight at 8pm. And that there’s a free BBQ @ 12 on Thursday. And SOUPer Thursday at 7:30. Instead of all of that, I thought I would remind all you wonderful people that there is a weekend away to Wales this Friday to Sunday!

The cost is £35 plus helping pay for the petrol to get there. If you’ve already signed up, please pay Canvas because we need to pay Cefn Lea Conference Park. Talk to Alli about that stuff.

Tonight, we will sign up for transportation to Wales (who is leaving when and in what vehicle) and we’ll talk about what you need to bring (so you don’t freeze in the middle of the night or get your favorite Gucci sweater dirty by the campfire).

So, to clarify. This Friday to Sunday. Weekend away. Cefn Lea Conference Park in Wales. £35. It’s gonna be amazing. Let us know if you have any questions.

See you all soon!
