It has been said, perhaps a few times too often, that “home is where the heart is.” We at Canvas believe that home is where the people are. Home is where you can walk inside and relax, be yourself, have a cup of tea or practice your ping-pong. Home is where you are always welcome, where they take you in no matter what, where a great meal is just minutes away. This is what Canvas has tried to be to students in Selly Oak over the past several years, and what we hope to be for many years into the future.

The great news for us to share is that we now, officially, have a new location that we can call our home. If you were to walk down the drive, to the building that sits behind Hadley Motors today, you might not think it was much. The place is a “fixer-upper”. There is cleaning and scrubbing to do. There are old walls to tear down and new ones to be built. The autumn season will be full of sanding and painting and moving and changing in this new space. Our hope is to create a place that students will feel compelled to call their second home within just a few short weeks, and by the year’s end we hope that this new building will be a thriving center of student life, just like that old place was on Tiverton Road.

You will be able to find us there most days between now and eternity, so if you want to check it out and take in the sight of something before it reaches its full glory and potential, then feel free to stop by. You can even come and help us out at one of our work-days, which we’ll be telling you about as we iron out our construction schedule. Either way: get excited, because we certainly are.
