Mr. Rodericks, rocking.

Have you always wanted to learn to play the guitar? If so, our resident face-melter Aaron Rodericks is hosting a Guitar Workshop at Canvas (find us) each Wednesday from 2pm to 4pm. Bring your guitar and your questions and get to it!

Learn some principles of great guitar playing, learn your favourite riffs and licks… learn the difference between riffs and licks. If you have a song you’ve been dying to learn to play, bring it and see if Aaron can’t help you figure it out from beginning to end. Who knows, maybe we could even play that song in the Tuesday Night Canvas Band, with you on guitar!

If you are coming along to experience the greatness that is the Weekend Away, here are a few things you should bring with you.

• Sheets/duvet cover for single bed or a sleeping bag
• Pillow
• Towel
• Toiletries
• Cash for petrol (£5), dinner on the way, and a pub on Saturday
• Warm clothes (we have a big bonfire on Saturday night)
• Sports clothes (there’s some open time and open fields)

Whatever you decide to bring, be sure to try and pack light to save space in vehicles. This is going to be a fantastic weekend. We hope you’re ready!

Kick Off 2010, at TC’s

Join us on the 12th of October for the 2010 Canvas Kick-Off Party. There will be free food, live music and a l-o-t of fun to be had. We’re kicking everything off at TC’s on Coronation Road from 8pm.

Open-Mic, at Urban Village

If you’d like a great night out with your mates, come to Urban Village on 7 October from 8pm to enjoy some great local artists playing their favourite and original tunes. If you’d like to reserve some time on the stage for your stuff, click here to sign up and we’ll save you a spot.

BBQ and American Football, in Selly Park

It’s autumn and autumn goes well with American football. And really, BBQ’s are good any time. Join us in Selly Park for all the great things that autumn has to offer! Free food and great games.

New Canvas House

That’s right! We’ve got a new place. We’re still putting the finishing touches on the place so that it can be the same, great kind of place you’ve come to love. We’ll be sure to let you know when it’s ready!

Free Tea and Coffee

Oh yeah, and one more thing. Every weekday from the 4th of October to the 15th, we’ll be at the Dale Road uni entrance (by the rugby pitch) giving out free tea and coffee to start your day off right. Walk by from 8-10am and grab your free drink. You barely have to stop walking.

We’re flying into Atlanta, Georgia, jumping into a big van, and road tripping across America into Mexico.  We’ll spend 4 days there building a house with our own two hands.  Hammering, cutting, drilling, and plastering.  After 4 days we’ll hand the keys of the new house over to the family who will live there. Then we’ll jump in a van and drive home.  Oh, and we’re also going to stop in some cool cities along the way to do a little touristy sightseeing.  Can you blame us?

On 8 December, at 8pm, we’ll hear Mosaic play some of your favourite Christmas tunes in a unique acoustic style, all of them musically interesting, using polished vocal harmonies and incredible stylistic arrangements. As the evening goes on, we’ll have some free mince pies and other holiday delicacies. Music and pies. That’s it.

Building a home for a family in need in Juarez, Mexico.

Canvas are teaming up with Casas por Cristo to build a house for a family in need in Juarez, Mexico this summer. We’d love to take a whole group of people to make it an even better experience for all. If you’d like to be a part of a trip like this, one that radically changes the life of a family, come to Canvas tonight (Thursday) at 8pm for a quick informational meeting (here’s more information on the Facebook event page).

If you have any interest at all and can make the time, you’ll definitely not want to miss it. Come be a part of something truly meaningful.

About Joining the Register.
Attend the clinic, read through the form and check that you do not have any medical conditions that would mean you were unable to join the register.

Then fill in a health questionnaire, and a trained Marrow counsellor will then then explain the procedures involved should you be called up to donate at any point in the future. They will also answer any questions you may have.

Finally a trained phlebotomist will then take a small blood sample (4mls which is less than a teaspoon) which is sent off to be tissue typed.

As a new member of the Anthony Nolan Trust register you will receive a registration card and postal confirmation of your status as a potential life saver a few weeks after having provided your sample.

Every single person on the Register is making a wonderful commitment â?? to make themselves available to support another person in need of a life saving transplant.
