The Not-So-Fine Print
We want you to know as much about Canvas as possible (or as much as you want). Take a look through some of these important (albeit, stuffy) points about who we are and how we operate. Of course, you can always message us with questions.
God
We believe that God is the creator and is seen in his creation. The beauty and complexities of this world lead us to wonder and look upward to a Creator and see that He is still very much involved in our lives. God is eternal. God is present in history throughout time and place. And we can participate in how and where God is working in this world.
Jesus
Jesus is the Son of the Living God. Through Him we are able to not only know God but to be returned back to God. When we read about Jesus in the Bible, we learn so much more about God and His character. And because "we have seen Christ we have seen God." Through Jesus becoming human we see how He and the Father are one.
While living in the first century, he was God "in the flesh." Simply: God came to earth. While here, Jesus was to put to a physical death on a cross and then through His physical resurrection he conquered death. He then went up into heaven and sent the same Spirit that raised him from the dead to live in us. We find hope in Jesus Christ because Jesus is the savior of all things.
Holy Spirit
We believe the Holy Spirit dwells within every believer's life, enabling her to live a life that is pleasing to God. Among the many descriptions in the Bible of the Spirit's character and purpose, the overarching one is this: God living in us. Paul (the writer of many Biblical letters) speaks of this being the "mystery" of God. The Spirit's task is to convict, comfort, counsel, and guide every believer. He also equips us with gifts to serve both the Church and the world.
Church
The church is the body of Christ, meaning all believers are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ on this earth. We are called to heal the broken hearted and to help liberate the oppressed. We are united in our love for God and our intercessory prayer for each other and the world. The Church is not bound by time and place but consists of all believers. This is the mystery of the church representing the body of Christ. The local church is called to serve the community and participate in the mission of God in the world.
Bible
We believe the Bible is trustworthy and useful. The word of God "never returns without accomplishing its purpose" and it is useful for teaching and guidance and correction in one's life. Many have found the Bible to be a book full of themes and complex ideas that reveal a living God who is actively pursuing us.
Canvas
We hope that this ministry is part of a larger story of those who have come before us and those who will come after us. We are part of the story of Christ. We exist to invite people into an ongoing relationship in Christ and the church.
